“Deep Peace” by Laurence Furr

Okay, so, seriously, do you want to relax? This is it right here. “Deep Peace” is the aptly titled new album release from harpist and flutist Laurence Furr.
In 2013 Laurence bought a Celtic harp. I would say it’s probably the best purchase he’s ever made, quite frankly. After a few lessons, he became passionate about it and began working toward certification as a therapeutic musician. He became certified in two accredited programs and is now a Certified Clinical Musician and a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner. He works as a therapeutic musician at JPS Health Network and Vitas Hospice in-patient-unit at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He plays therapeutic music on the harp and Native American flute in all departments of the hospital, including surgery, ICU, NICU, ER, Trauma Unit, and all Critical Care Units.
Laurence considers his work to be a sacred calling. I would agree. No argument here. This music will give you chills, and I wish there were better words in the English language to describe “peace.” This is astoundingly beautiful.
“Deep Peace” is 15 tracks and almost a full hour of some of the most peaceful, heavenly, harp and flute music you will ever hear. The tranquility from each song on this album pours into your soul like liquid honey. And it stays there. Do I have to pick a favorite? I can’t.
The album opens with “Quiet Earth” This is 4 minutes of beautiful. The song is melodic and harmonious. I think Laurence is master of the peaceful melody. Yes. This is followed by “Red Wind of the East,” which is equally as beautiful. I found “Silver of the Dew” to be deeply touching and gently tranquil.
A flute solo, “Grey Wind of the East” is haunting, soft, and magical. It’s perfectly executed and precisely played with no hard edges. “Gold of the Sun” is pretty, bright, and flowing, yet still with that tranquil touch that we find throughout. Like a fresh spring or summer day after a light rain, “Green of the Grass” is that kind of green. This is melodic, gentle, and flowing. I found “Running Wave” to be like a soft, tender caress upon your face and I also found it to be heart opening. That’s where you can really feel it, in the center of your heart.
The brief “Flowing Air” is another flute solo. This is light and airy, like a leaf on the wind. “Stepping Stones” is an evocative soundscape with perfect cadence. Here we are moving forward and smoothly, lightly transitioning from place to place. As one might expect, “Quiet Rain” is just like that; gentle, soft, and serene.
“Healing Light” is just gorgeous. This is truly healing balm to the distressed soul. You can almost feel the healing light entering and circulating through your whole body. Breathe.
“Brown of the Soil” is a flute solo. It’s “earthy” as one might anticipate. But there is always an omnipresent gentleness in every song on this album and that is true in this piece as well. There’s nothing deep, heavy, or dark here. This song is quietly calming to the spirit. Very nicely done.
Twinkling, sparkling, and subtly glittering. You know what they are. They are “Shining Stars.” Another truly magnificent track. Let the peace, deep, deep peace, seep into your soul. Effortlessly soothing.
There’s something special about moonlight, eh? Mysterious and luminescent candescence, “White of the Moon” is exquisitely calming to the psyche. I found this ultra-calming.
This magnificent album closes out with “Gentle Night.” Melodic, tender, and gentle, of course, this is the perfect close, although we do not want that “night” to ever end.
You will absolutely want to get the entire album. “Deep Peace” on Earth. . . how wonderful. This is completely beautiful, timely for all, and deeply peaceful in every way.
